Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will consist of a welder who lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to build or rebuild parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy: Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Safety – conduct all activities in a safe manner, utilizing PPE and adhering to company policy and alerting others regarding potential concerns. Safety is # 1.
· Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
· Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies using welding equipment.
· Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
· Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
· Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
· Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
· Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
· Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
· Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
· Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
· Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
· Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
· Types of welding include:
- MIG- Metal Inert Gas; FCGS- Flux Core Gas Shielded; SAW- Submerge Arc Welding; SMAW- Shield Metal Arc (Stick); Metal Core Welding
· Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED preferred.
· Ability to lift up to 50# is required
· Welding, soldering, and brazing skills. Rigging loads for overhead crane work and forklift operation is desired
· Two years professional training in a vocational institution, or equivalent journey level experience desired
· A two-year Associate Degree from a technical/trade school is preferred
