JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to develop and maintain Health, Safety and Environmental systems aligned with the HEPI Group, and make recommendations to establish best practice and consistent standards for the North American Operations.
The role will foster a “safety culture” by engaging personnel at all levels and drive the success of safety, health and environmental initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operational Requirements
- In conjunction with Global HSEQ Director, operational managers and other major stakeholders, maintain revise, and implement Safety Management Plans and Safety Policies.
- Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in consultation with Operational Managers.
- Conduct regular safety audits and area inspections in relation to safety and environmental standards and procedures.
- Manage and coordinate all investigations following safety incidents/events.
- Identify training needs following safety incidents and make recommendations.
- Provide administrative and direct support for workers’ compensation, injury management and return to work programs.
- Develop and maintain local fire evacuation procedure and conduct annual fire drills.
- Manage the processes for emergency preparedness.
- Promote and support environmental processes i.e. recycling, waste reduction
- Coordinate the calibration of all company measuring equipment in-line with company requirements.
- Coordinate and manage the change management process.
- Maintain the Non-Conformance Register ensuring timely completions.
- Oversee and direct all safety and environmental related programs
- Implement, support and provide guidance to Safety Committees at each North American Locations
- Effectively manage direct report(s) by providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training Frequent travel & visit all North American locations to implement safety strategy and drive safety culture.
- Ensure the development, implementation and updating of required safety, health and environment programs. These will include but not limited to:
- Hazard Communication Program
- Exposure Control Program (Blood Borne Pathogens)
- Hazard Assessment and Personal Protective Equipment Program (PPE)
- Respiratory Protection Program
- Chemical Hygiene Plan
- Hazard Communication Program
- Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO)
- Emergency Action Plan, including emergency procedures, first response, First Aid/CPR/AED training
- MSD Material update for facilities
- Coordinate all safety and environmental training programs for all North American locations
- Provide weekly safety topics for departmental review
- Develop new hire orientation and safety training for all HEPI facilities
- Work with department leaders and safety leads to develop corrective actions and undertake action verifications for continuous improvement
- Management of the Company’s Safety Data System
- Coordinate safety, health and environmental walk-through inspections for all HEPI facilities
- Ensure corporate compliance with all applicable safety, environment and health government rules and regulations.
- Maintain required safety, health and environmental documents and files.
- Develop and maintain accurate safety records, including safety statistics, incident reporting, environmental reporting etc. and provide input to Monthly Management Reports outlining key issues, initiatives, and monthly statistics.
- Keep up to date on current and upcoming government safety, health and environmental regulations.
- Maintain, monitor and drive the HEPI Safety Plan
- Proactively follow and promote the company Core Values.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills adaptable for various levels of employees.
- Able to work in busy conditions, subject to tight timeframes and with competing demands.
- Absolute discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
- Other duties as may be assigned
- Position will require overnight travel up to 60% of time and unscheduled in response to serve incidents. (Locations include: Richmond & Edmonton Canada, Hibbing Minnesota, Billings Montana, Seattle Washington, Atlanta Georgia and other smaller US sites).
