Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Integral part of the accounting operations of the company. Will support five primary areas of (a) corporate Atlanta monthly processes and closing (b) global fixed Assets (c) global lease accounting. (d) companywide initiatives and projects (e) Compliance: internal and external.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety – conduct all activities in a safe manner, utilizing PPE and adhering to company policy and alerting others regarding potential concerns. Safety is # 1
Overview:
- Adhere & drive global system of accounting policies.
- Interact with Controller of Financial Reporting and Shared Services, and CFO on a regular basis
Functions & Processes:
Corporate Atlanta
- Deliver elements of the corporate accounting process including assigned journals, reconciliations. Assist Financial Reporting accountant with
- Prepare and review monthly reconciliations of significant general ledger accounts to ensure balances are properly supported independently and provide timely follow up bringing to a conclusion “research” item within prescribed deadlines.
Fixed Assets
- Ensure all fixed asset transactions adhere to IAS16 and ASC 360 while identifying and applying different global standards.
- Partner with purchasing managers to prepare and follow up on Fixed Asset Cap Ex requests and related purchase orders.
- Ensure accurate additions, disposals and maintenance of fixed assets entries including tangible and intangible assets in Pronto.
- Drive company initiatives to streamline and systematize asset processes from budget to reporting by partnering with Controller of Shared Services.
- Prepare analysis and reports to support month, quarter and year-end financial results.
- Prepare various reports associated with lease accounting.
Lease Accounting
- Review and analyze lease agreements to determine the appropriate accounting treatment and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Calculate lease payments and amortization schedules and other lease-related financial information.
- Prepare and record lease data in Pronto and ensure accuracy of the entries.
- Prepare various reports associated with lease accounting.
Companywide Initiatives and Projects:
- Partner with controller on company-wide initiatives and projects, including assisting on automating Fixed Asset processes.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement for accounting processes, engaging process design conversations and making recommendations.
Compliance
- Assist with the provision of information to external and internal auditors.
- Assist with the provision of information to external tax consultants.
- Comply with local, Provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Other:
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Position requires collaboration with department managers and colleagues in other divisions.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Four-year accounting degree is required.
- Two to Five years accounting experience is expected.
- Fixed Asset experience with IAS 16 and ASC 360 familiarity is a plus.
- Lease Accounting experience and IFRS 16 familiarity is a plus.
- Proven track record of timely meeting of multiple deliverables within prescribed deadlines.
- Ability to adjust to different circumstances and cope with job related pressures/stress.
- Intermediate to advanced applications software expertise (Microsoft Office and accounting software)
